We often get questions like “How do I activate my SIM?”, but good news!
Your VoicePing SIM does not need activation.
Once you receive it, you can start using data right away by following a few quick setup steps.
Step-by-Step: Getting Started
1. Turn ON Data Roaming
Go to your device settings → Mobile Network / Cellular → Data Roaming → Turn it ON.
2. Set the APN
You’ll need to set your Access Point Name (APN) so the SIM can connect to the network.
APN Name: cmlink
Username/Password: Leave blank
Save and select this APN.
3. Choose the Correct Network (if needed)
Some devices may require you to manually select a network.
Choose AT&T or AT&T USA from your network operator list.
4. Try It on a Smartphone First (Optional)
If you’re using a router, tablet, or modem and data doesn’t start right away
insert the SIM into your smartphone first to confirm it’s working.
Once connected, you can move it back to your device.
Check Your SIM Status
You can check your SIM’s current status at: https://usage.voiceping.com
When you enter your ICCID number (printed on your SIM card), you’ll see one of these results:
Inactive – The SIM has never been used. Try connecting again following the setup steps above.
Activated – The SIM is already in use and will show your plan’s end date.
Expired – The plan period has ended and the SIM can no longer be used.

GPS Tracker Shows “No Data” or “Offline”?
This happens because usually your GPS tracker needs to be set up to use the VoicePing SIM. The requirements are:
1. Switch Data Roaming ON
2. Set the APN to cmlink
To do these configurations, consult your GPS tracker manual to see how this can be done. You might need to send an SMS or connect via Bluetooth or serial.
Option 1: Use the Optional SMS Pack (No SIM Swapping Required)
If your GPS tracker supports SMS configuration commands, you may purchase the VoicePing SMS Pack.
When the SMS Pack is activated:
• SMS is enabled directly on the VoicePing SIM
• The VoicePing SIM remains inside the GPS tracker during the entire setup
• The VoicePing SIM can receive SMS configuration commands
• Setup commands (APN, roaming, GPRS, etc.) can be sent without using temporary SIM cards
• Send SMS via our web interface. There is no support for receiving SMS so any SMS that your device sends back about status is not received.
Option 2: Manual Setup Using Temporary SIM Cards
If you do not purchase the SMS Pack, you can configure your GPS tracker using two SMS-capable SIM cards. This setup is required one time only.
VoicePing SIM is not SMS-capable by default.
SIM Requirements
SIM 1: Stays in your smartphone (used to send commands)
SIM 2: Goes inside your GPS tracker (used to receive commands)
Step-by-Step Manual Setup
Step 1: Insert a Regular SIM into the GPS Tracker
• Insert SIM 2 (any SIM that can send/receive SMS) into the tracker
• Power ON the tracker and wait about 1–2 minutes for it to connect to the network
Step 2: Send the APN Setup Command
• Using your smartphone (with SIM 1), send an SMS to SIM 2 (inside the tracker)
• Example commands (device-dependent):
• apn,cmlink,#
• apn123456 cmlink
• Wait for a reply such as “APN OK” or “SETUP OK”
• This means your tracker has saved the internet (APN) setting.
Consult your GPS tracker manual for specific commands. Commands shown here are for reference only.
Step 3: Enable Data Roaming
VoicePing SIM requires Data Roaming to be ON.
Using your smartphone (with SIM 1), send an SMS to SIM 2 (inside the tracker)
Example commands:
• ROAMING,ON#
• ROAM,1#
• ROAMING123456 ON
Wait for a reply such as “ROAMING OK”
Step 4: (Optional) Enable GPRS / Data Mode
Some GPS trackers are 2G-only and require GPRS.
Using your smartphone (with SIM 1), send an SMS to SIM 2
Example commands:
• GPRS,ON#
• GPRS,1#
• GPRS123456 ON
Wait for a reply such as “GPRS OK”
Step 5: Insert the VoicePing SIM
After the configurations above are successful:
• Turn OFF the tracker
• Remove SIM 2
• Insert the VoicePing SIM
• Turn the tracker ON again
• Your tracker will now connect to the internet automatically using the saved APN (cmlink).
Important Notes
• These steps apply only to GPS trackers that support SMS configuration
• Setup is required one time only
• Trackers remember settings even after power off or SIM change
• Temporary SIMs must have SMS balance and network signal
